After we had been waiting for month now, the big day finally came. Johanna started school in Holzkirchen. We were all very excited and not quite sure about the whole procedure. As it happened all parents and grandparents squeezed into the small classroom, took pictures, and were then greeted by the headmaster and the teacher, who is a nice young lady Johanna liked immediately. With 19 kids the class has a good size and Jo made friends with a little girl called Phillipa who moved last year from Cologne (!). The kids stayed 1 1/2 hours while we had a coffee and met other parents and then all went to the Catholic church. The sermon was short enough but the songs came from a time of colonization, singing about black kids in Africa and yellow kids in Asia. Shawn was ready to leave! Problem here is that we really stick out: no foreigners at all. No turks, russians, asians or other different looking people to be seen. Hmmmm.
